Students specialising in gerontology, health and care take a multidisciplinary approach to the general and specific issues of ageing and old age as well as the ethically and professionally based treatment of people in need of care.
Content of the study program
The Bachelor of Arts degree program in Gerontology, Health and Care as an minor subject with a subject share of 25% includes an interdisciplinary, methodical examination of the disciplines of gerontology, nursing science, ethics and thanatology, geriatrics and (geronto-)psychiatry as well as health protection, prevention and rehabilitation.
Against the background of legal, social and health policy framework conditions and developments, the Bachelor's degree program deals with the fields of gerontology and the field of rehabilitative, curative and palliative care, support and care for people with long-term care needs and people with chronic illnesses in different phases of life.
Structure of the study program
The degree program has a modular structure and includes study components from two subject areas, i.e. the minor subject Gerontology, Health and Care with a subject component of 25% and a major subject with a subject component of 75%. A total of 180 credit points (ECTS) are achieved as part of the Bachelor's degree program, which are made up as follows:
Minor subject Gerontology, Health and Care with a subject share of 25%
- Academic components of the minor subject, 35 ECTS
Major subject with a subject share of 75%
- Academic components of the main subject, 113 ECTS
- Interdisciplinary competences, 20 ECTS
- Bachelor's thesis, 12 ECTS
The minor Bachelor's degree program in Gerontology, Health and Care can be combined with all Bachelor's degree programs that provide for a corresponding major study program of 75% or 113 ECTS in their examination regulations.
